Southern Style Recipes

  • Virgin Mint Juleps

    Ingredients:
    1 oz lime juice (or juice of 1/2 lime) 1 oz pineapple juice 1 oz orange juice 1/2 oz raspberry flavored syrup club soda 4 muddled or crushed mint leaves + a sprig (in tact)

    Instructions:

    Combine all ingredients except club soda in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a tall glass. Add club soda and stir gently. Garnish with a sprig of mint and enjoy!

    A refreshing non-alcoholic twist on a true southern tradition!

  • Cinnamon Honey French Toast with Pecans

    Ingredients:
    1/2 cup toasted, chopped pecans 1/2 cup honey 3 tbsp butter 3/4 cup half & half 3 large eggs 1 tsp vanilla Ground cinnamon 8 slices bread (your choice)

    Instructions:

    Cook pecans, honey and 2 tbsp butter in a saucepan until hot.  Simmer. Wisk together half & half, eggs and vanilla.  Dip bread into the mixture so that it’s covered, but not soaked.  Melt remaining butter in a skillet or griddle.  Cook bread over medium heat.  Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top while cooking.  Cook until golden brown.  Serve covered with honey-pecan mixture.

  • Angel Kisses

    Ingredients:
    4 eggs (whites only) 1/2 tsp vinegar 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup sugar

    Instructions:

    Prep:  Preheat oven to 225 degrees.  Cover two cookie sheets with aluminum foil. Beat 4 egg whites until frothy.  Add vinegar, vanilla and salt.  Beat mixture until it makes soft peaks.  Add sugar in small amounts.  Beat until stiff, but not dry.  Drop small spoonfuls onto cookie sheets and bake approximately 45 minutes.  Let treats cool before removing them off the cookie sheet.

    Makes delicious bite-sized meringue treats that just melt in your mouth!

  • Mini Meatloaf

    Ingredients:
    3 oz ground beef 3 oz ground pork 3 oz ground veal 2 oz diced onion 2 oz diced bell pepper salt / white pepper 1 tbsp chopped garlic 1 egg 2 oz ricotta cheese 2 oz panko bread crumbs 2 oz BBQ sauce

    Instructions:
    Combine all ingredients (except BBQ sauce).  Shape into loaf form on sheet pan or in loaf pan.  Bake at 350 until internal temperature reaches 155 degrees.  Top with BBQ sauce.

  • Smokey Mac & Cheese

    Ingredients:
    Elbow noodles ½ lb smoked cheddar cheese ½ lb Monterey jack cheese ½ lb provolone cheese 3 cups milk 8 oz butter pinch of salt & pepper

    Instructions:

    Combine milk & butter; melt over a low stovetop flame.  Slowly sitr in cheese until melted.  Add salt and pepper.  After fully melted, pour over cooked pasta and stir to combine.  Bake at 350 until slightly browned.

  • Greek Orzo Pasta Salad

    Ingredients:
    1 lb orzo pasta ¼ cup olive oil 1 cup orange juice 2 tbsp chopped garlic 6 oz fresh spinach 6 oz kalamata olives 6 oz feta cheese 1 lb chopped tomatoes

    Instructions:

    Cook and chill pasta.  Combine all ingredients.  Serve cold.

    Description:

  • Broccoli Squares

    Ingredients:
    2 cups fresh, local broccoli 1 cup mayonnaise 1 cup evaporated milk 3 eggs 1 tbsp butter 1 tsp flour 1/2 tsp salt Tobasco sauce to taste

    Instructions:

    Prep:  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Butter the bottom and sides of a 13×9 casserole dish.

    Steam the broccoli until fully cooked and then mash it.  Add all the ingredients and mix thoroughly.  Pour mixture into buttered casserole dish.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Let dish cool a bit.  Cut into squares and serve while warm.

    Honey Glazed Carrots

    1lb. baby carrots ¼ cup honey ¼ cup orange juice Pinch of cinnamon Pinch of salt & pepper 2 tsp fresh parsley
